It’s all about Radio One!
7th July 2011
It’s all about Radio One for graduates Danielle McGinley and Phil Short as one of the most popular radio stations in the UK is fast becoming familiar territory for the sublime musicians. Six weeks ago keyboard player, Danielle and guitarist, Phil landed a dream gig working with up and coming artist Aaron Delahunty, as they embarked upon their first Radio One Live session at the infamous Maida Vale studios. Following the recording session, the band were invited to perform at Radio One’s Big Weekend festival.
Aaron’s music, described as gypsy hip-hop, was pumped out to over 100,000 eager onlookers as the band played the Introducing Stage at the festival which took place in Carlisle in May. The Introducing Stage is purely to showcase new talent and has previously seen Wretch 32 and Two Door Cinema Club make their big break. Hoping to follow in similar footsteps Aaron, Danielle and Phil, along with the rest of the band, put their all into the half an hour set at the highly attended event.
Having graduated from her 3 year BMus degree just a year ago, Danielle has since been building up a highly credible CV by working with the likes of Ed Drewett and Tinchy Stryder. Danielle says ‘Playing for Aaron Delahunty has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my musical career so far. As well as performing amazing gigs, venues and festivals; the music is challenging and exciting to play. The biggest highlight has been having the pleasure of working and performing alongside some very competent and skilled musicians. I'm very appreciative that Tech Music School put me forward for this opportunity.’
Keep an eye out for Aaron Delahunty and his awesome band who will be gigging all over the UK this summer.
